Fourth of July

The past several years we have tried to avoid the craziness that is the 4th of July in Washington DC by heading to IL to celebrate Owen's birthday with family. Last year was the first year we were actually home for his birthday and the 4th, but we didn't really venture past our neighborhood to see any fireworks. This year, with Grandma and Grandpa and Aunty Laurie here I really wanted to brave the crowds and get out somewhere to watch the fireworks. So we headed out to the Air Force Memorial which turned out to be a great spot for viewing the fireworks on the mall with not quite as many people. It still took us 45 minutes to get out of the parking lot, but we had so much fun it was worth it!

We had a great picnic complete with homemade margarita (shhh...don't tell the park police) and live music while we waited for it to get dark

We took lots of pics together

And then Owen started to get really bored of waiting...
But soon he discovered it was worth it!
