Rehoboth Beach

Labor Day Weekend this year we did not have any travel plans so we decided to take advantage of the leisurely weekend and head to Rehoboth Beach Delaware for a day of fun in sun. Owen has seen sand and water in the past (from the Chesapeake Bay), but he has never actually seen the ocean, swam in it, or really played on a sandy ocean beach. We left the house fairly early Saturday morning to start the 3hr drive and were so happy that we cruised there without hitting any traffic. By 10:30am we were parked and had staked out a great sandy spot right by the water.

Owen and Robert ran right into the water, chasing the waves, laughinging and running from them as they broke and crept up the shore!

But then they paused to have a serious conversation about waves, high tides, and the lunar cycles...maybe they can fill you in some time ;)

And this shot is just so you knew I wasn't behind the camera all day...I got in on the fun too!

Time to dry off a bit and build a sandcastle...

Then Owen explained to us that he was building a Baseball Stadium...

And then a rather large wave came ashore and we realized the Stadium was not structurally sound...

Robert tried to bail us out...

But it was too late...

I love this guy :)

So after the stadium tragedy we headed to the Boardwalk for some lunch

And stumbled upon a fun little carnival

Those were Owens first carnival rides, and he really enjoyed them. The whole day was just so much fun, and full of exciting firsts: First time seeing and going in the ocean, first time playing on the beach, first walk on the boardwalk, first carnival rides. We cannot wait to go back next summer! What a great way to finish the summer before Owens first day of preschool! :)
