Christmas in VA

Let me just start by saying, when we do Christmas in VA, we do it up right, complete with record breaking snowfall and all! What fun, and it gave a new meaning to the song "White Christmas."

The weekend we chose to have our family Christmas in Virginia, meteorologists were predicting "epic" snowfall, and they weren't kidding. In an area that averages less then 6 in of snowfall per year, getting 10-12 inches in one dump would be considered "epic," and that's precisely what happened. It started to come down, heavy, thick and beautiful on Friday night and did not stop until sometime on Sunday. We awoke "Christmas" morning (12-19-09) to at least 6in that had fallen overnight. It was a very pretty snowfall with relatively mild temperatures and it set the scene perfectly for our Christmas weekend. We were snowed in all day Saturday which gave us a great opportunity to have a nice Christmas together and play with all the great new gifts.

The dig out commenced at some point on Sunday in the late afternoon thus ending our picture perfect Christmas weekend-

With the snow falling outside and Christmas music playing we set the scene for Owens Christmas morning and went downstairs bright and early Saturday to wake him up. He is generally not a morning person until after he has his coffee, but as soon as Robert reminded him that there were presents under the tree to open, he popped right up. He slowly meandered into the family room asking for his milk until he caught sight of the tree-

He dove right in and was delighted by each present that he opened! These gifts were from us to one another and from Grandma Bonnie & Grandpa Steve that they brought and left at our house Thanksgiving weekend.

It was such a fun and special morning for the 3 of us, and perhaps one of the best parts was that there was more Christmas (and although we didn't know it at the time, lots more snowfall) to come the following weekend in IL!
