Day Out With Thomas Chapter II

May 1st we made the trek back up to the B&O Train Museum in Baltimore for our second annual Day out with Thomas. Last year was our first time going (read about it here) and I am pretty sure we will make the yearly pilgrimage until Owen is well into elementary school. The event itself is just fun (especially for a train lovin' little boy), the staff is friendly and this year we took advantage of everything they had to offer from bounce houses to painted tattoos to balloon animals.

We arrived at B&O approximately one and a half hours before our 10:45 scheduled departure on Thomas the train. The first thing we did was check out some of the old locomotives, train cars and cabooses they have on display in the museum.

After some play time there, we headed into the roundhouse where they have different stations set up for folks to visit. In the roundhouse we found Roary the Racing Car, who, from what I can tell, has no other affiliation to the Island of Sodor and Thomas other then they are featured on the same channel; but it still thrilled Owen to pieces to see Roary "in person." We also met and took pictures with Sir Topham hat, got a balloon airplane and a Thomas tattoo, played with some trains, looked at model trains and popped in and out of more old train cars.

Believe it or not, all of that fun ate up our hour and a half and it was time to board Thomas for our train ride! Owen got a kick out of seeing the conductor as we were boarding and when we were on the train, another conductor passed through the cars and punched out our tickets just like they do on The Polar Express! Too bad there wasn't any "hot, hot, hot, Hot Chocolate..." Actually, its a good thing there wasn't any because it was a scorching 90 degrees at 10:45am on this particular May 1st...

After our train ride we were free to roam around and enjoy the event as long as we wanted, and we stayed into the afternoon because Owen was having so much fun. We watched a model train Thomas go around his track a few times, Owen jumped in his very first bounce house, we had lunch, Owen rode on a train ride and played in the wooden train playset.

It was a fun, beautiful day and a great way to kick off May! Yay for Spring, yay for sun, and yay for A Day Out With Thomas, 2010!
