Growing Pains

Ah, growing up is hard work, and lately with all of the trips, tumbles and stumbles we can tell Owen is growing up, up and up. Anyone that has been around us for awhile probably knows that since he was able to communicate dislike, Owen has had a rather hateful relationship with bandaids. How strange is it that a toddler would scream and cry at even the mention of needing a bandaid? Well, thats what he did, and it got to a point where any time Owen got hurt in any way he would cry and say "I no need bandaid!" So, for almost 2 years I've had cute CARS tattoo bandaids sitting in the bathroom, untouched...that is, until this past month. Owen had been at the park and at some point fell and skinned his knee. Since it was cold here, he always had on jeans or long pajama pants but when the weather turned warm, we put him in shorts and suddenly he was having a very hard time with his (almost completely healed) owie showing from under his shorts. He sat on the couch just crying and trying to pull his shorts down and when I asked what was going on he asked me to cover it up. It seemed just looking at his (almost completely healed) owie brought back the tragedy of the whole situation and he wanted nothing to do with it. Soooooo, I thought I'd try, once again, to bring up the item-that-must-not-be-named. I pulled out the box of "items" and Owen immediately began to protest. I ignored, and just started talking about the pictures on the box and the cars. We said a few funny lines from the movie and suddenly his mood was softening. So I pulled one out and said, "Lets see who's on this one!" We checked it out and I showed him that the sticky part was all covered up and showed him how if we put one on his owie, it would be covered. He seemed to be buying into it when I put one on myself to show that it did, indeed, cover things up. Then, I unwrapped the sticky part, distracted him for a moment, grabbed his leg and...............

SUCCESS!
And a smile even!!
And guess what...now we even need bandaids for those so-small-they-don't-even-actually-exist owies! Hurray :)

A few days later Owen was sitting on a tupperware container and somehow he managed to fall off of it and his face met the hardwood floor. OUCH! Luckily we have a super cool McQueen cold pack to help with owies of that sort-

But the best part is that when he hurts his leg or back or other body parts he still puts the McQueen cold pack on his mouth to help the owie feel better :)
